Here's what we were working with - a waterlogged, muddy backyard with standing water, scattered debris, and zero usable space. No place to sit, no place to gather. Just a problem that got worse every time it rained.

We started by clearing everything out and prepping a solid base. Getting the ground prep right is what separates a patio that holds up for decades from one that shifts and settles after a couple of seasons. The herringbone paver layout with a contrasting gray border came together clean and tight, centered around a built-up square fire pit with a solid cap detail.

Once the hardscape was locked in, the surrounding area got graded and prepped for sod installation. Fresh sod going in around the perimeter of a new patio like this ties the whole yard together - you go from bare dirt and mud to a finished, usable outdoor space fast.

That's the thing about combining paver patios with sod installation - neither one looks its best without the other. The patio gives you a defined space to use and enjoy. The sod gives it context and makes the whole yard feel intentional. Together, they solve the drainage and usability problems in one shot.

A backyard that used to collect standing water is now a spot people actually want to spend time in. That's the whole goal.
